Didger can convert data between many different coordinate systems, including UTM and Lat/Long. To use Didger to convert UTM data to Lat/Long data, please follow the steps below.
- Import the data file using File | New | Import Data (Didger 3) or File | Import (Didger 4).
- Select the appropriate data import options, such as defining which fields of data are the X coordinate and Y coordinate data.
- Click the Import button and the Define Import Options dialog opens.
- Set the Coordinate Space Type to Projected and change the Map Projection Category to UTM.
- Set the System to the Zone in which your UTM coordinates are located
- Select the correct Input Data Units
- Select the appropriate datum (ie. North American Datum 1927, North American Datum 1983, etc)
- Click OK. Your data will display in the plot window.
- Go to View | Change Projection and change the Map Projection Category to World/Continental. The System should then report Unprojected Lat/Long.
- Change the datum if necessary. If you do change the datum, be sure you check the "Apply Datum Conversion" check box.
- Click OK and the data will appear in Lat/Long.
- Go to File | Export and select DAT as the file type. This will export the data in Lat/Long.
