Yes. Surfer versions 9 and above can import MrSID files.

Surfer 8 and previous versions cannot. However, you can get the free ExpressView browser plug-in from LizardTech, the inventors of the MrSID format.  You can use ExpressView to both view a MrSID and also convert it to a TIF with a TFW world file.

Surfer 8 and previous versions can make a base map from a TIF file, but it does not read the georeferencing information from the TFW world file.  However, we have written a script for Surfer that will load a TIFF base map and georeference it using the TFW information.

Download the script TifTfwLf.bas from our web site. Run the Surfer Scripter program using the Windows Start | Programs | Golden Software Surfer 8 | Scripter menu command. Use Scripter's File | Open command to open the TifTfwLf.bas script and run it with the Script | Run command. You will be prompted for the TIF or TFW file name to load.
