Q. I need technical advice on creating grids, with breaklines applied. Ultimately I am creating a contour map of a creek and its banks, but I am not able to make the gridding process recognize the breakline BLN file I have created. Can you help us please?
A. To use a BLN file as a breakline for gridding, there are a few things you can check:
- Open the BLN file in the Surfer worksheet and verify that cell A1 contains the number of vertices in the line.
- Check to see that line 2 and subsequent lines contains XYZ coordinates in columns A, B, and C.
- Close the worksheet and choose Grid | Data. Specify the GRD file, and click Open.
- Specify the Gridding Method in the Grid Data dialog box.
- Click the Advanced Options button, and click on the Breaklines and Faults tab.
- Click on the yellow Open Folder icon to the right of the File Containing Breaklines prompt, specify the BLN file, and click Open, then OK.
- Click OK in the Grid Data dialog to begin gridding.
If there is a problem applying the breakline to the gridding process, please email the data, the BLN file, and the gridding parameters chosen to surfersupport@goldensoftware.com.
