Yes, you can find the area of a region. Digitize a polygon around the region (Digitize | Polygon).

In Didger 3, the area is reported in the Data Attributes View or you can double click on the polygon and the area is displayed in the Object Properties dialog.

In Didger 4, the area is reported in the Data Manager or you can select the polygon and the area is displayed in the Property Inspector.

The area will be reported in whatever units you have specified for your project. You can change the area units by going to File | Project Settings.
