What causes the gridding error:"Insufficient data (collinear)"? Is it because all my Y values are 0?

Yes, Surfer can not grid data points if they are all collinear (all in a straight line). 

Either add more data points, or change one of the values by a small amount, e.g. 0.001, save the changes, and grid the data.
