Template files save the Borehole View design and only the necessary data tables and fields used to create the logs in the Borehole View. This makes it easy to create the same, consistent logs with data from different wells. The steps to create, save, and use templates are:

  1. Open Strater and create your borehole design in the Borehole View.
  2. Make sure the Borehole View is in Design Mode (you can check this in teh Borehole View Properties). If it is not in Design Mode, switch to Design Mode by going to Tools | Design Mode. The logs will turn to "placeholder" logs which don't show any actual data.
  3. Go to File | Templates | Save to save the template.
  4. When you are ready to load the template, go to File | Templates | Load. Select the template file and click Open.
  5. When you are asked if you want Strater to create the necessary tables and fields, click Yes.
  6. The template will load and you will see the placeholder logs in the Borehole View.
  7. Activate the Database View and load the new data into the various data tables, being sure to check the "Import Data Into Current Table" check box at the bottom of the Open dialog box.
  8. Activate the logs in the Borehole View by switching to Active Mode (Tools | Design Mode) and selecting a well name in the Borehole Name Filter drop down menu (in the Borehole View Properties).

Note that when you load a template file, the Database View will not be exactly the same as the file the template was saved from. Unused data fields and tables will not be present and Strater will create some of the default data tables and fields (which will be empty).
