In Strater, template files save the borehole view design, all the data tables and columns, and the schemes to a template file. All you have to do in the future, is open the template file, load data into each of the data tables that are created, and then activate your borehole view. This makes it easy to create the same, consistent logs with data from different wells.
The steps to create, save, and use templates in Strater are:
- Open Strater and create your borehole design in the borehole view. You can do this either in Design Mode or Active Mode. If you are in Active Mode, you will be required to load data to create the logs.
- After the design is complete, go to File | Save As, choose to save the file as a Strater Template File and click Save.
- When you are ready to load the template, go to File | Open. Select the template file and click Open.
- The template will load and you will see the placeholder logs in the borehole view.
- Activate each of the data tables and go to File | Load Data.
- In the Open dialog, be sure to check the check box "Import Data into Current Table". Select the data file to load into that data table and click Open.
- Repeat loading the data for all data tables that were created.
- Click on the template tab at the top to go to the borehole view.
- Switch the borehole view to Active Mode by clicking Log | Design Mode (Tools | Design Mode in Strater 1 and 2) or pressing F4 on the keyboard.
- You may need to select Hole ID to display by clicking View | View Properties (View | Borehole View Properties in Strater 1 and 2) and in the Property Manager selecting the ID Filter.

In Strater 1, template files save the borehole view design and only the necessary data tables and fields used to create the logs in the borehole view. The Database View after the template is loaded may not be exactly the same as the file the template was saved from. Unused data fields and tables will not be present and Strater will create some of the default data tables and fields (which will be empty).
