Q. I have a problem with making contour maps that contain faults. I get a contour map with a blanked area around my fault line and the contour lines do not end at the fault, but a bit next to it. How can I solve the problem that the area around the fault is not shown as a blanked area? The fault should just be displayed as a line or curved line, at that the contour lines end.
A. Surfer blanks the grid cell when a fault BLN line crosses the cell, therefore the grid cells around the fault line will be blanked. To minimize the blanked area around the fault lines, you want to minimize the size of the grid cells. You can do this a few different ways:
- Go to Grid | Data and regrid the data with smaller grid cells (increase the # of Lines in the Grid Data dialog).
- Use Grid | Spline Smooth to insert more nodes into the grid for smaller grid cells.
- Use Grid | Mosaic to add more grid lines to the grid to create smaller grid cells.
- Increase the width of the fault line in the contour map to cover some of the blanked area.
