Surfer exports a map with map units when it is the only object being exported. When other objects such as color scales and text are present, Surfer uses page units by default when exporting. Use the following procedure to work around the problem.
To export to map units, click on the map to select it, choose File | Export, specify the file name and choose the Selected objects only option. In the Export dialog box, add a check mark to the option to Save scaling info and click OK. Choose File | Export a second time, specify the same file name, and do not select the Selected objects only option. In the Export dialog box, change the Scaling source to Saved. Verify that the coordinates in the Export Rectangle section are map coordinates, and click OK.
Select the map, choose File | Export, and choose the Selected objects only option. In the Export dialog box, choose the Save scaling info option.
Export the file again, and change the Scaling source to Saved. Verify that the coordinates in the Export Rectangle section are in map units.
