To make an object partially transparenty, select the object module and change the Opacity setting in the Properties window to less than 1.0.
The most common cause of problems viewing objects through others with opacity less than 1 is the Transparency Type setting in the Viewer window. Choose the View | Transparency Type menu command or right-click in the Viewer window and choose Transparency Type and experiment with the different options to see which one works with your objects.
