When your cursor turns into a circle with a X through it, this means that you cannot place that particular object in that location.

In Strater, you can get this cursor if you try and place a log item in the header or footer panes. Log items can only be placed in the log or cross section pane.

In Strater 1, you could get this cursor if you try and place a log item in the header or footer panes, or if you try and place a drawing object in the log pane.
Log items can only be placed in the log pane. In Strater 1, drawing objects (i.e. text, polylines, polygons, imported objects, scale bars, etc.) can only be placed in the header and footer panes. Strater versions after version 1 allow you to place drawing objects anywhere on the page, including the log pane.
