To convert a 3D SHP to file to a XYZ data file or a Surfer GRD file, follow these steps:
1. In Didger, go to File | Import, select the 3D SHP file and click Open. 2. In the ESRI Shape Import Options dialog, make sure the "Areas to Curves" box is NOT checked and click OK. 3. In the Define Import Options dialog, define the coordinate space on the "Define Coordinate Space" tab, then go to the Data Attributes tab and be sure that the ZLEVEL is specified for one of the attribute fields. 4. Click OK and the information is imported. 5. Look in the Data Manager and confirm that the Z values are imported as one of the attribute fields. 6. If you want an XYZ data file, go to File | Export and choose to export as a Golden Software Data (*.DAT) file. If you want a Surfer GRD file, you can choose to either use the Tools | Surfer | Grid Data command in Didger 4 or grid the data separately in Surfer.
To use Didger 4:
1. Go to Tools | Surfer | Grid Data 2. In the Grid Data dialog box, select the gridding method you wish, the gridding options, and a file path for the output grid file. If you want, you can also choose to create a Surfer contour, image, or shaded relief map automatically. 3. Click OK and the GRD file (and map if selected) is created.
To use Surfer: 1. Go to File | Export and export the project as a Golden Software Data (*.DAT) file. 2. Now you have a data file containing XY and Z data (along with any other attribute info you choose to import from the SHP). Open Surfer. 3. In Surfer, go to Grid | Data, select the DAT file and click Open. 4. Select any gridding parameters you wish and click OK. A GRD file is now created and can be used for map creation, area/volume calculations, etc.
