The error message indicates that you do not have write privileges in the C:\Program Files\Golden Software\Surfer8\ folder.

The "GSaXXXX" file is a temporary file that is used to save changes to the default settings in the surfer.set file.  For example, the message may reference \GSa02476 or \GSa02200.

To resolve the problem:

Grant write privileges to the Surfer 8 folder.

If you cannot grant write privileges, start Surfer with a surfer.set file in another directory where you do have write privileges. To start Surfer with a different surfer.set file, create a new shortcut and specify the location of the new setting file (.set) in the File | Preferences | Dialog Defaults tab.

  "C:\<path1>\surfer.exe" /set "D:\<path2>\surfer.set"

<path1> is usually \Program Files\Golden Software\Surfer8\ .
D:\<path2> is the new surfer.set location.
