To create a BLN file to display multiple polylines, there are two options.
  • Digitize from Surfer
    • This is best to create line segments from an existing map in Surfer (contour, base, etc.).  When creating a blanking file in this manner the header information is added to the file automatically.
    • To create a blanking file with the Digitize command:
      • Create a map in the plot window, and then select the map. This can be an overlay, although the overlay cannot contain a wireframe or surface, or be tilted at any angle other than 90 degrees.
      • Choose the Map | Digitize command and the pointer becomes a cross hair.
      • Click the left mouse button in the plot window to write the current coordinates to the digitize editor window (digit.bln dialog box).
      • If you wish to create multiple polylines, click the digitize editor window and manually insert a blank line between the coordinates that make up each polyline. Each group of contiguous coordinates will form a separate polyline in the blanking file.
      • When you are finished defining the polyline(s), select the File | Save As command in the digitize editor window, and save the file using a [.BLN] extension. Press ESC or choose any tool button to exit digitize mode.
  • Create Manually in a text editor
    • This method is best if you have known X,Y values for your line segments.
    • To create a blanking file with a text editor, ensure that the format includes header information and save as a .BLN file.
      • Below is an example of the proper format for 4 seperate polylines.  The header consists of the (number of points, blanking flag value)
