Graticule labels in MapViewer 7 cannot be rotated. However, there are a few ways to display the same information in MapViewer 7 with rotated labels.
First, you could add a map collar using the Map | Map Collar command. The map collar labels can be rotated by clicking the Major Tick Settings button. Then, check the Same label orientation for horizontal/vertical ticks box. Click OK and all labels are shown horizontal.
Another way to add the labels would be to export the graticules and recreate the graticules as a base map. Here are the steps for that procedure.
- Create a new layer by right clicking in the Layer Manager and selecting New.
- Choose Map | Graticule. Set the graticule properties and place graticules with labels on the new layer.
- Turn off all layers except the graticule layer. You can do this in the Layer Manager by clicking on the yellow light bulbs to turn them gray. The layer is then turned off.
- Choose File | Export. Type in a File name, such as graticule, and set the Save as type to GSI - Golden Software Interchange (*.gsi). Click Save. Check the Export basic object attributes box and click OK. Do not check any boxes in the GSI Export dialog and click OK.
- Create a new layer by right clicking in the Layer Manager and selecting New.
- Choose Map | Base Map and select the graticule.gsi file. Click OK in the import dialogs and the lines and labels are displayed.
- Select all of the labels that are vertical. Choose Arrange | Rotate. Type in -90 for the Counterclockwise rotation in degrees value. Uncheck the Rotate objects about the group pivot point and click OK. The labels are now rotated.
- With the objects still selected, choose Arrange | Align Objects | Top to have all of the labels at the same location vertically.
- You may need to change the font size. You can do this with all objects still selected by changing the Points in the property inspector.
- Delete the layer that had the original graticules on it by right clicking on it in the Layer Manager and selecting Delete.
