There is not a way to physically move or edit the shape of a contour line, but there are some workarounds:
1. You can change the grid node values of the grid file to affect the shape of the contour lines:
- Choose the Grid | Grid Node Editor, select the grid file and click Open.By default, a small cross is displayed at the grid nodes.
- Click on a grid node you wish to modify, and the X, Y, and Z coordinates of the selected grid node are displayed at the top of the grid editor window.
- Alter the Z value of a grid node by typing in a new value into the Z box at the top of the window. This will not affect the Z values of the surrounding grid nodes.
- Save the modified grid file when you are finished, and create a new map with the new grid file, or substitute the new grid file in an existing map.
2. If you don't need the map coordinates in the resulting file, you could:
- Copy the contour map to the clipboard
- Go to Edit | Paste Special
- In the Clipboard Formats dialog, select Picture as the format, check the Break Apart Metafiles check box, and click Paste.
- The map will paste as a composite object. If you are using Surfer 9, you can skip this step. If you are using Surfer 7 or 8, select the composite object and go to Arrange | Break Apart to break apart the composite into individual objects.
- Select line to be reshaped, and go to Edit | Reshape to display the vertices in the contour line.
- Click on a vertex and drag it to a new location to reshape the polyline.
- Select another polyline to reshape, or hit Esc on the keyboard to exit Reshape mode.
