When you overlay or update maps, Surfer 9 and higher versions
will not revert to the default limits and scale. If the new overlay or
map data exceeds the current limits and scale, you are asked if you
want to adjust the limits and scale.
When you overlay or update maps, Surfer 7 and Surfer 8 will revert to the default limits and scale. To work around this, you can either:
- Change the default values for the limits and scale under File / Preferences / Dialog Defaults to what you want the map to be.
- Use a script to overlay all maps in the current window keeping the scaling and limits the same.
- Upgrade to the current version of Surfer.
Change the Default Values 1. Before overlaying or updating the map, go to File | Preferences and click on the Dialog Defaults tab. 2. Scroll to the Map Scale and Map Limits section near the bottom of the list. 3. Click on the plus sign + to the left of Map Scale, select xDatPerPU (or xLen, depending on how you want to set the scale) and change the Setting Value to what you want the scale to be. Set the Setting Persistence to Current Session Only. 4. Repeat for the Y scale. 5. Open the Map Limits section and set the Setting Value for each of the limit entries to be what you want the value to be and set the Setting Persistence to Current Session Only. 6. Click OK and save the changes to the Surfer.set file.
Now when you create and overlay maps, the scale and limits will be fixed to what you specified. To reset the settings for a map covering a new area, close and restart Surfer.
Use a Script Use the attached script to overlay all maps in the current Surfer window keeping the scale, limits and position of the selected map. 1. Save the attached BAS file and open it in the Scripter program that comes with Surfer. 2. In Surfer, select the map you want to keep the limits/scale/position of. 3. In Scripter, go to Script | Run. The script will overlay all available maps
