| I can not install the Surfer 8 update under Windows Vista or Windows 7. I get: Error: "A valid version of Surfer is needed to install the update" |

Run Surfer 8 as an administrator to install the update under Vista or 7. This is not the same thing as being logged in as Administrator. By default, Vista and 7 run programs with Standard User privileges, even if you are logged in as an Administrator.
To run Surfer as an administrator, right-click on the Surfer icon, shortcut, or EXE and choose Run as administrator. Once Surfer starts, you can use the Help | Check for Update command to download and install the update patch.
 Right-click on Surfer and choose
Run as administrator.
