- To draw a North arrow symbol in Surfer, follow these steps:
- Create a new point object using the Draw | Symbol command.
- Click on the screen where you want the north arrow to be displayed.
- After the point is drawn, double click on the the point to open the Symbol Properties dialog.
- Change the Symbol Set to either GSI Default Symbols or GSI North Arrows.
- Select a North arrow symbol.
- Change the Size to make your north arrow larger to fit your needs.
- Click the OK button.
- You
can rotate the North arrow using (Arrange
| Rotate) to make sure it lines up correctly with the North
orientation.
- To add a North arrow that moves with the map, create a post map with the desired location of the north arrow and overlay it with the other maps.
To
create a post map, first create a data file in the worksheet with the XY map
coordinates where you wish the north arrow to appear on the map. You can get
the coordinates from your map, or by right-clicking on the map and choosing the
Digitize option. Click on the map, and the XY coordinates appear in the
digit.bln window. Save the coordinates to a data file with the DAT
extension, and close the digit.bln window. Choose the Map | Post Map
| New Post Map menu command, specify the DAT file name, and click
Open to display a new post map with the default cross-hairs symbol.
Double-click on the post map to display the Properties dialog, click on
the General tab, and click on the Default Symbol button to display
the Symbol Properties dialog.
 Click
on the Default
Symbol button to display the Symbol
Properties
dialog.
Change
the Symbol Set to GSI North Arrows, click on the desired north
arrow symbol, and click OK to return to the Post Properties dialog.
 Change
the Symbol
Set to GSI North Arrows, select he
desired symbol, and click OK. Change
the Symbol Size to 1.00 inches then click Apply to see the
change.
To
overlay the two maps and position the north arrow, choose the Edit | Select
All menu command, then choose Map | Overlay
Maps.
