Grapher requires worksheets to contain numeric or date/time data to create a graph. If your data are in categories, you will need to use a slight work around to create your graphs in Grapher.
If your data looks similar to this:
| |
Values |
| Apples |
17 |
| Bananas |
23 |
| Oranges |
14 | Follow these steps to create your graph in Grapher.
- Create your graph as normal using the Graph | 2D Graphs | Line/Scatter or Bar Chart command.
- Select the data file and click Open. The default graph is created.
- With the plot selected, open the Plot Properties section in the property inspector. Change the X column to Row Number or Sequence Number. Verify that the Y column is set to Column B.
- Click once on the X Axis 1 to select it. In the property inspector, open the Tick Labels tab. Scroll down and open the Major label text section. Change the Label source to From worksheet.
- Click on the Worksheet command where it says <Click here to select worksheet >. Select the data file and click Open.
- Change the Data column to Row Number or Sequence Number (keep the same as in step 3 above).
- Change the Label column to Column A. Your graph should now look contain categories for the X Axis labels.
