Q. I am trying to plot directional drilling using a post map. I make the symbols as arrows, and I would like the arrows to point in the direction of drilling, which is given in the worksheet as an azimuthal value. When I plot them on the map the way they are, they show up mirror imaged to the direction I want.
A. Azimuth directions are usually given in a clockwise direction. The angles in Surfer are plotted in a counter-clockwise direction. To have the angles plotted correctly, you can either subtract your angle values from 360 or make them negative. Either way will give you the same result. If you do not want to create another column in your data file and yet still label the points with the correct angle, choose to multiple your angles by -1, label them with this column, and then format the labels in absolute value. An example SRF file is attached.
