If you import or load a base map from an EMF/WMF file into Surfer 8 and do not check “Break apart metafiles” during import, then if you export back out as an EMF/WMF (or copy/paste into Word or PowerPoint), the text contained in the original metafile will be reversed.
There are two ways to workaround this problem:
1. Go to Map | Base Map (or File | Import), select your metafile and click Open. In the Enhanced Metafile Options dialog, check the “Break apart metafile” check box and click OK. Then add your other maps or map items and export back out to a metafile to import into Word or PowerPoint. As long as you check the "Break apart metafile" check box, the text will be in the correct orientation when you export it back out.
2. Export your SRF file to a JPG or TIF image (or other raster format) and insert that file into Word or PowerPoint instead of the metafile. The problem with the reversed text is only a problem when exporting to a metafile format (EMF or WMF).
