When I open Surfer 7, I get the error message “Bad OLE registration entry. Disabling OLE”.

If you are running Windows Vista, right click on the Surfer 7 EXE or the shortcut and select “Run as administrator” from the pop-up menu that appears.


The most common cause of the Bad OLE Registration error under Windows 2000 and XP is not having Administrator or Power User privileges while installing or running Surfer. 

You can either change your user privileges, or disable Surfer 6 automation emulation in the surfer.ini by opening the file (loacted in the Surfer installation directory) in Notepad, and adding the following line below the [Settings] header:

 

    EmulateS6Auto=0

 

Save the changes and restart Surfer to enable the changes.
