The most common cause of the Bad OLE Registration error is not having Administrator or Power User privileges while installing or running Surfer.


Windows Vista or 7

If you are running Windows Vista or 7, right click on the Surfer 7 EXE or the shortcut and select “Run as administrator” from the pop-up menu that appears.


Windows XP or 2000
You can either change your user privileges so you have Administrator rights, or disable Surfer 6 automation emulation in the surfer.ini by opening the file (loacted in the Surfer installation directory) in Notepad, and adding the following line below the [Settings] header:

 

    EmulateS6Auto=0

 

Save the changes and restart Surfer to enable the changes.
