The default maximum map size in Surfer is 120". You cannot create a map larger than 120" by default. If you wish to do so, you can increase the maximum plot (map) size to any number up to 2000". To do this, follow these instructions.

  1. Click Tools | Options.

  2. Click on Advanced from the left side menu.

  3. On the right side expand Miscellaneous and select PlotSize.

  4. Enter the new plot size for the Setting value, select a Setting Persistence value (use Always reset to always keep this plot size) and click OK.

  5. Click Yes to save the changes to the surfer.set file.

Surfer 8

You can change the maximum plot size with a setting in the surfer.ini file.

Open the surfer.ini file in Notepad or another text editor. For Surfer version 8.09, under Windows Vista, the surfer.ini file is located in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Golden Software\Surfer\8. For all other Operating Systems, the surfer.ini file is located in the Surfer installation directory.

Once the surfer.ini file is open, in the [Settings] section at the top of the file add the line:

            PlotSize=240

Set the number to whatever maximum you want, in the range of 10 to 2000. Save and close the surfer.ini file and restart Surfer to enable the changes.

For future reference, this is documented in Surfer ReadMe.txt file, which is accessible through the Windows Start menu.
