Question: I am using Surfer to create contour maps. However, when I double click on my map (or right click on the map and go to Properties), the Properties dialog box or the Property Manager no longer opens. What is wrong? I have tried unintalling the program and reinstalling it several times, this has not fixed the problem.
Answer: Most likely the Properties dialog or the Property Manager was dragged off the visible portion of the screen. This could have happened inadvertently (it was accidentally dragged off so only a small portion of it is visible) or this could happen if the computer monitor resolution changed.
If you are using Surfer 10, simply go to View | Reset Windows. This will reset the managers to their default positions.
If you are using Surfer 9 or previous, then there is a registry enter you can delete so that the Properties dialog goes back to the default position. Be very careful when editing your comuter's registry.
- Close Surfer and go to Start | Run
- Type in regedit and click OK.
- In the Registry Editor, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software | Golden Software | Surfer | 8 (or 9)
- Select the Settings folder and hit Delete on your keyboard to delete that key (click Yes when it asks you if you want to delete this key).
- Once that folder is deleted, close the Registry Editor and restart Surfer.
- Now open a file and try to access the Properties dialog box.
