If you are using any Surfer 8 version besides Surfer 8.03 (go to Help | About Surfer to check this), you can enable Surfer to automatically scale bitmap fill patterns so they appear the same on printers and metafiles as they do on the screen. To do this:
1. Locate the surfer.ini file:
- For all versions of Surfer 8 under Windows 98, Me, 2000 and XP, the surfer.ini file is located in the Surfer installation directory (c:\program files\golden software\surfer8 by default).
- If you are using Surfer 8.07 or higher and on Windows Vista, the surfer.ini file that is used by the program is located at c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Golden Software\Surfer\8.
- If you are using an older version prior to 8.07 and on Windows Vista, the INI file is still located in the installation directory.
2. Open the surfer.ini file in a text editor, like Notepad.
3. Scroll down about 2/3 of the way to the [Options,GSOGDI] section.
4. Remove the semicolon in front of the following 4 lines:
Win8x8MonoDPI=96 SimBitmapFill:Printer=1 SimBitmapFill:EnhMetafile=1 SimBitmapFill:Metafile=1
5. Save and close the file.
6. Restart Surfer, open your file and print.
