Surfer 9 and higher:

You can update maps with updated grid or data files using the File | Reload Map Data command.

To switch grid or data files, select on the map layer in the Object Manager, and in the Property Manager, click the open yellow folder icon to select a new source data or grid file.

Surfer 8 or previous:

To update a contour, image, shaded relief, vector, or surface map with new data, follow these steps:

1. Go to Grid | Data in Surfer, select the updated data file and click Open.
2. Specify the gridding parameters you wish and click OK to regrid the data and create an updated grid file.
3. Once the updated grid file is created, double click on the contour map to open the Map: Contours Properties dialog.
4. On the General tab, click the yellow open folder icon to the right of the Input Grid File.
5. Select the updated grid file and click Open.
6. Click OK in the Map: Contours Properties dialog to update the contour map with the new grid file.

To update a post or classed post map with new data, follow these steps:

1. Double click on the post or classed post map to open the Properties dialog.
2. On the General tab, click the yellow open folder icon to the right of the Data Filename.
3. Select the updated data file and click Open.
4. Click OK in the Map: Contours Properties dialog to update the contour map with the new grid file.

You cannot update base or wireframe maps in Surfer 8. If you wish to update one of these map types, you must delete the map and recreate it. If the map is part of an overlay, you must break apart the overlay before you can delete the map.
