In some cases, you can get touching or crossing contours if the Smoothing option is enabled under the contour map properties. Select the Contours layer in the Object Manager. In the Property Manager, on the General tab, set the Smoothing value to None.
If you want to smooth your contours, you can:
1. Grid the data with twice as many grid lines for a smoother result.
2. Smooth the grid file using either Grid | Spline Smooth or Grid | Filter. Substitute the new GRD file in the contour map, or create a new contour map from the new GRD file.
