Q: Some of my DEM files have elevation data in units of meters, and others have elevation data in units of feet. How can I convert the Z units of one to match the other so that the DEMs match up?
A: You can convert the Z values of meters to feet (or feet to
meters) for a grid file using Grid Math.
To do this:
- Go to Grid | Math.
- In the Grid Math dialog, click the Add Grids button.
- Select the DEM or grid file you wish to convert and click Open. This grid is entered as input grid file (A).
- Enter the function with the conversion factor. For converting feet to meters, use A/3.28083. For converting meters to feet, use A*3.28083.
- Click OK and the new grid file is created.
