To rotate a grid file 90° without interchanging the X and Y coordinates, follow these steps:

1. Go to Grid | Convert.
2. Select the grid file and click Open.
3. In the Save Grid As dialog, choose to save the grid as GS ASCII (Surfer 8) or Surfer 6 Text Grid (Surfer 9) and click Save.
4. Open the text grid in a text editor, like Notepad.
5. Switch the third and fourth rows.
    a. Select the fourth row and go to Edit | Cut.
    b. Insert a new row after row 2.
    c. Go to Edit | Paste and paste the information as a new third row.
    d. Delete the blank row
6. Go to File | Save and save the changes. Close the file.
7. In Surfer, go to Grid | Transform.
8. Select the newly saved text grid and click Open.
9. In the Grid Transform dialog, choose Operation = Rotate and Angle = 90 (to rotate 90° counterclockwise) or 270 (to rotate 90° clockwise) and click OK.
