| I have a TIF file that contains Z values. How do I load it into Surfer so it reads the Z data? |

If you have a GeoTIFF file that contains Z values (such as an SRTM DEM file in GeoTIFF format), you can use this file direcly in place of a grid file where ever a grid file is used. This function is only available in Surfer versions 9 and higher. Surfer 8 and previous versions of Surfer ignore any Z data in an image file and you can only load it as a base map.
For example:
- Go to Map | New | Contour Map
- In the Open Grid dialog select All Files from the Files of Type drop down menu.
- Select the TIF file and click Open. The contour map is created from the TIF file.
