You can import a GeoTIFF in UTM units and convert the coordinates of the
map to display Lat/Long. To do this:
- Go to Map | New |
Base Map
- Select the GeoTIFF file and click Open. The base map is created and the coordinates are referenced
according to the image referencing.
- Select Base in
the Object Manager and go to the Coordinate System tab in the Property Manager. If the referencing
also included coordinate system information, it is automatically entered here.
- If not, click the Set
button, select the original source UTM coordinate system appropriate for the
image, and click OK.
- Select Map in
the Object Manager and go to the Coordinate System tab in the Property Manager.
- Click the Change
button.
- Select the appropriate Lat/Long coordinate system you want
(usually Predefined | Geographic
(lat/lon) | World Geodetic System 1984) and click OK. Now the image base map is converted to Lat/Long for display in
the plot window.
You can also convert the projection of an image in our
Didger software. Import the image into Didger, use View | Change Projection to change the projection to Unprojected
Lat/Long, and export to a new GeoTIFF. This new GeoTIFF can be used directly in
Surfer to create a base map in Lat/Long.
