You can draw objects in map units in Surfer inside an empty base map. Add an empty base map to the map in Surfer, draw objects inside a base map, then export the base map only to a file.
- Select your existing map and go to Map | Add | Empty Base Layer.
- Select the new empty base layer in the Object Manager and go to Arrange | Enter Group. You are now "inside" the base layer object.
- Go to the Draw menu and select the item you want to draw (text, polylines, polygons, symbols, etc).
- Draw the objects over the map. Create as many objects as you wish.
- When you are finished, go to Arrange | Exit Group. The base map will now move, scale and resize with the original map.
- If you want a separate base map file with these objects, turn off the original map and axes in the Object Manager and use File | Export to export the base map to a new base map file (ie. DXF).
If you using a Surfer 8 or earlier, or if the drawn objects already exist in your project, you can use the instructions found on our newsletter article: http://www.goldensoftware.com/newsletter/Issue48ExportMapUnits.shtml
