In Strater, there are stock, image (picture) and gradient patterns available. Only gradient patterns can be edited from within Strater. Stock and image patterns cannot be edited. Custom image patterns can be loaded from image files that are saved to your computer or copied to the clipboard. To create a custom patterns in Strater:

  1. Create the pattern in some program (either in Strater or in a graphic editing software).
  2. Export it to an image file (ie. JPG, GIF, BMP, etc) or copy it.
  3. To load the image in Strater as a fill pattern, click to the right of Pattern in the Property Manager, and either click the Load File button (if you exported it) or the Clipboard button (if you copied it) at the bottom of the fill pattern drop down list.

In Strater 1, there are stock, vector, bitmap and picture patterns available. You can customize the vector and bitmap patterns from within Strater 1.

If you have custom patterns in Strater 1 and would like to see them in a more recent version of Strater, you can either:

  1. Export a rectangle filled with that pattern from Strater 1 to an image file (choose an invisible line style for the rectangle) and use the Load File button at the bottom of the Pattern palette to load it as an image pattern in Strater.
  2. Take a screenshot of the pattern in Strater 1 and use the Clipboard button.
  3. Create an SDG file in Strater 1 with rectangles with the patterns you want, open the SDG file in Strater 2, and any vector/bitmap patterns in Strater 1 are automatically converted to custom image patterns in Strater.

Note that custom (loaded) image patterns will be saved in the SDG files so they will always be with the file. They are also saved in the Pattern palette, but only in the instance of Strater that they were loaded. So if you opened the Strater 1 file in a more recent version of Strater, you’ll see the custom patterns in the Pattern palette, and can use them for new or existing files. However, if you closed and reopened Strater, they will not be there. You will need to either reopen an SDG file with the patterns in it, or you can reload the images.
