Here's a scenario that might sound familiar to users of earlier versions of Grapher: You're trying to plot some data with dates and times on the X-axis, but you just can't get the labels to display the data as you see it in the Worksheet Manager! You're clicking through the tabs in the Property Manager and making changes, but there's so many options! Aahhh! Why is it so difficult?
We receive calls like this frequently in our tech support department. Users commonly contact us with questions on how to perform certain tasks, some of which (like date/time labeling) cropped up on a regular basis. This showed us that certain tasks in Grapher were not intuitive, or should be easier to discover for the occasional user. Taking this insight onboard, we redesigned the entire Grapher user interface, from the manager sizes and placement to the command locations themselves. We grouped similar commands in a more intuitive way, and placed commands in more obvious locations. And the aim of all this? To save you, our customers, valuable time - and to make useful commands more discoverable in the new version of Grapher.
Here are some of the user interface redesigns we came up with:
- The Worksheet Manager and Script Manager are now docked by default on the right side of the window rather than the bottom, to optimize your vertical work space.
- The Ribbon bar has been redesigned to group similar commands, and move commonly-used commands to the Home tab. This mirrors the Surfer interface so users of both programs will immediately feel at home and find this layout intuitive.
- The Property Manager tabs and commands have all been rearranged to group like commands together and make it more intuitive to perform workflows, like adding date/time labels to axes for example.
- The Property Manager and Object Manager are now wider by default so you can now see the full command names without resizing the managers.
