Qualified Educational Institutions within the United States and Canada are eligible for the educational site license. A Qualified Educational Institution means an educational institution accredited by an authorized governmental agency within its applicable local, state, provincial, federal, or national government and has the primary purpose of teaching its enrolled students.

Examples of Qualified Educational Institutions include:

  • Elementary schools, middle schools and high schools
  • Junior colleges
  • Colleges, universities and technical schools

Organizations that do not qualify include:

  • Non-accredited educational institutions
  • Training centers
  • Churches
  • Hospitals, healthcare systems & research laboratories
  • Libraries
  • Museums

Yes, in the sense that we provide a concurrent-use license with a high seat-count and it’s unlikely your users will ever reach the concurrent-use threshold. The default educational site license is a 500-seat concurrent-use license. If you think your educational institution requires more seats, please be sure to include this information when you complete the Educational Site License Agreement.

The educational site license must not be used for any commercial work, for-profit work or research work.


Beyond that, the software may be used by faculty, staff, educators, researchers, and students associated with the Educational Institution. The software may also be used for administrative purposes meaning activities that are not directly related to instruction or education such as asset mapping or construction modeling for the Qualified Educational Institution.

Surfer, Grapher, and Strater are available under this educational site license program.


At this time, Voxler, Didger, and MapViewer are not. Please contact us to add your vote to have these products available in the educational site license program.

No, there are no technical between the educational and commercial versions of the software. Both versions have the same features and functionality.

  1. Review and complete the Educational Site License Agreement.
  2. Send the completed form to sales@goldensoftware.com.
  3. We will send you an Estimate detailing the total price along with any questions we may have.
  4. Once the agreement is finalized, you may pre-pay via credit card, PayPal, Wire Transfer, or check, or you may submit a formal purchase order.
  5. Upon payment, we will send you software download instructions and license product keys.

The educational site license is effective for three (3) years from the agreement date. We will bill you annually for the license fee. Prior to the renewal date, you will receive an invoice to renew for another year. If the invoice is not paid, the software will not function.

The agreement may be terminated by either party with written notice. Please review the Educational Site License Agreement for further details.

These services include email, phone, and LiveChat support as well as access to all of our online resources including knowledge base, help documents, tutorials, training videos, forums. The site license entitles you to all new software releases during the agreement period. This includes new features, improvements, and bug fixes. Additionally, you will receive a 50% discount on all training classes hosted by Golden Software.

The educational site license is a concurrent-use license, also known as a network or floating license, and the licensing technology is Gemalto/Sentinel RMS. Yes, per our Educational Site License Agreement, you may install the software on personal devices for those individuals associated with the Educational Institution. In order for the software to be licensed, the personal device must have access to the network through which the site license is available. If the user wishes to disconnect from the network, a license seat must first be checked out by following the instructions found in this article – Do I have to be online to use the software?

Yes, if you wish to disable commuting for all licensed users, please be sure to include this information when you complete the Educational Site License Agreement. You can also allow license commuting generally but prohibit commuting by individual PCs during set up.
