Q1. What is the latest version?
A.
The most recent version of Strater is 1.4.33.

Q2. How can I get the latest version of Strater?
A.
Minor updates (i.e. version 1.0 to 1.4) may be downloaded for free if your serial number is registered. Connect your computer to the Internet, then click the Help | Check for Update command in Strater. This will download the latest patch and install it on your machine. Information about the latest version is listed on the Version History page.

If you experience any problems with this command or would like to download the full version of the updated software, please email your registered Strater serial number to stratersupport@goldensoftware.com. Once your serial number is verified, we will send you download instructions.

Q3. Where can I find a list of fixes and changes between versions?
A.
A list of changes and fixes between minor versions (i.e. 1.0 to 1.4) can be found at: http://www.goldensoftware.com/straterhistory.shtml

Q4. What are Strater’s system requirements?
A.
Strater’s system requirements are:

  • Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista, and higher.
  • 800 X 600 or higher monitor resolution with 16-bit (or higher) color depth.
  • At least 100 MB of additional free hard disk space.
  • At least 64 MB RAM above the Windows requirement for simple data sets.

Q5. How do I install or uninstall Strater?
A.
Installing Strater
Installing Strater under Windows 2000, XP or Vista requires that you be logged into an account that has Administrator rights.

To begin the installation, either insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive, or double-click on the downloaded EXE file to run it. See below for details of each method.

Installing Strater on a Local Drive from CD:

  1. Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. The Setup program automatically begins on most computers.
  2. Choose the "Install Strater" option from the screen and setup will begin.

If the Setup program does not automatically start, double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Open the CD-ROM drive which contains the Strater disk by double-clicking on the CD-ROM icon. From the CD-ROM folder find and double-click on Autorun.exe to launch Strater's Setup program. Select "Install Strater" and setup will begin.

Depending on which version of the Windows Installer and database components are on the installation machine, either no reboots or as many as two reboots may be requested.

Windows 98 First Edition

If the installation machine doesn't have at least Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2, you will be informed it is required and told that IE Service Packs can be downloaded from "www.microsoft.com/windows/ie". Win98 Second Edition has the necessary IE version already integrated into Windows.

Windows 2000

Win2000 Service Pack 1 is required to get the full benefits of the Microsoft Jet 4.0 (SP6) Database Engine included with Strater. If you don't have Win2000 SP1 installed, the installation will allow you to continue and Win2000's Jet 4.0 (SP3) engine will be used. If and when you do install Win2000 SP1, go to the Control Panel's Add/Remove section and use the Repair option to update the Strater installation.

Installing Strater on a Local Drive Using a Downloaded EXE:

  1. Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and navigate to the folder containing the downloaded file.
  2. Double-click on the file Strater1433.exe to begin the installation process. The EXE extension is not displayed if you have enabled the option to "Hide Extensions for Known File Types" in My Computer.

Uninstalling Strater

To uninstall Strater, go to the Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs (Windows prior to Vista) or Programs and Features (Windows Vista). Select “Strater” from the list of installed applications. Click the Remove or Uninstall button to uninstall Strater.

Q6. Do I need to uninstall the demo version before installing the full version? Can I activate the demo to become the full version?
A.
You do need to uninstall the Strater demo before installing the full version of Strater. There is not a way to “activate” the demo version to become a full version.

Q7. Do I need to uninstall an older version of Strater before installing a new version?
A.
You do need to uninstall previous versions of Strater before installing a newer full version of Strater. Do NOT install a newer FULL version of Strater over a previous version of Strater. For example, uninstall Strater 1.0 before installing the full version of Strater 1.4. If for some reason you need to do a FULL installation of Strater, uninstall the previous version before installing the updated version.

You do not need to uninstall Strater if you are installing the update patch. For example, do not uninstall Strater 1.0 before installing the patch file to 1.4 (downloaded by going to Help | Check for Update).

Q8. Do you offer training?
A.

Q9. Where can I find my serial number?
