Image Gallery:
"Gulf of
Alaska"
Thanks to Howard Freeland, the Head
of the Ocean Science and Productivity Division, Institute of Ocean Sciences, for
this image.

Mr. Freeland tells us why and how he
created the image:
"I needed a good background
map of the Gulf of Alaska. To create this one I abstracted data from the
ETOPO5 database for use in Surfer. ETOPO5 is a global digitization of the
land heights and ocean depths on a grid of resolution 5 minutes latitude by 5
minutes longitude. I then contoured the height and depth data and coloured
it with, I hope, some sensitivity. This allows me to create a useful
template map for any diagrams I want to create."
