Mike Cline of T/X Resources (www.txresources.com) submits these images to illustrate the interpretation of seismic data with small scale faults. The 3D image shows the fault, but without the optimal view angle, the fault is partially obscured. The shaded relief map is a good choice for fault detection, since shadows are cast on the map by minor deflections in the surface.
