"Water Supply Project"

Abbas Goli writes:

"Pooyeshgaran-e-Kavir is a consulting engineering firm that works on environmental issues, watershed management, urban planning, and mostly GIS.

"The sent images and plats are related to a water supply project for agricultural consumption in the village Aftar located in Semnan, a province in Iran. The project phases are as below:

  1. Calculating the points elevations of the area

  2. The points interpolation and drawing the contour line and the 3D image of the area (figure 1).

  3. The best image for constructing the storage supply was selected from the 3-D image in order to reach the maximum storage of water and minimum amount of fill and cut (figure 2)

  4. The fill and cut process was performed according to figure 3.

  5. The bed and the body of the construction were covered by a polymer sheathing to reduce the permeability and reach the maximum usage of water storage.

  6. And finally the water withdrawal phase

"Currently, our firm has a project in hand, dealing with the investigation of the flood in Golestan province. A base map was provided for the staff, using the Surfer software to help them adopt themselves to the method. With this map, the staff could easily propose their plans and ideas; and it was such that a dam was suggested to reduce the flood risk and peak only by illustrating the flow lines using the Surfer. The following studies proved the recommendation (figure 9-8-7-6).

"Since this software has a proper capability to illustrate the 3D location of the area, and also provide the Shaded Relief Map, it can help the erosion experts to identify the erosion forms easily (figure10).

"The software may be applicable in other areas of study if some other facilities are included, and can be comparable with many other important softwares."
