Graphing America’s Favorite Pastime

Graphing America’s Favorite Pastime

Baseball is one of America’s favorite pastimes. The game has experienced very few changes since its inception in 1845 and is filled with numerous traditions. No game is complete without the staples of peanuts, hot dogs, and beer, and it’s expected even the most tone-deaf of viewers will sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh inning stretch. I get goosebumps just thinking of it!

Today is a special day for Colorado Rockies fans as it’s our home opener. Opening Day, an unofficial holiday, is a wildly celebrated event for baseball fans across the states. This day is celebrated with parades, tailgate parties, and numerous special events at local bars and pubs.

In celebration of opening day, the below graphs take a look as some fun baseball stats.

Grapher Stacked Bar Chart: Top 10 MLB Baseball Players
These top 10 players came from ESPN’s Hall of 100 and stats were gathered on 2D stacked bar chart plotted in Grapher.

Grapher 2D Pie Chart: MLB Baseball Player Birthplace
The birthplace of the Unite States’ 2016 major league players. In addition to the United States, there are professional baseball teams in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Australia, to name a few. 2D pie chart plotted in Grapher.

Grapher Bar Chart: Hotdogs Consumed by Major League Baseball Stadium
Hotdogs are a staple at any baseball game, and fans sure love their hotdogs. With variations like the Texas Rangers’ Boom Stick (2 feet of hotdog, chili, cheese, jalapenos and caramelized onions) and the Atlanta Braves’ Dixie Dog (hotdog, pulled BBQ pork, mustard BBQ sauce, pickles, and southern slaw), what’s not to love? Even if you’re not a baseball fan, Opening Day is a festive occasion. Safe celebrations everyone!
