Customer Success Story: Géologique Saves Clients Time & Money

I had the pleasure of meeting long-time Strater user Deryk Forster last year. Mr. Forster is the founder of Géologique, a geological and geotechnical services company that serves the energy and dam industries in Queensland, China, and the Middle East.

During our visit, Mr. Forster shared how he and his team transformed a time consuming and expensive data collection, processing, and presentation workflow into an efficient and streamlined process. Read about this transformation in our customer success story, Géologique Empowers Clients with Strater and iGloo.

Hydrogeologist Maps Brine Plume in 3D with Voxler

One of the most interesting Golden Software user stories that I have recently heard was from an independent Hydrogeologist with Anthropocene Solutions Inc. named Joseph ‘Joe’ Harrer. Joe Harrer uses a combination of vertical EC measurement and groundwater sampling tools with Voxler to perform 3D brine plume modeling. Joe is working on a project where he was hired to do a groundwater characterization of a brine storage facility where initial studies proved that leakage beneath a brine plume has caused an impact to the soil and groundwater and that the impact has been spreading with the groundwater as it migrates down gradient. Local regulations required a full assessment of the plume’s extent and a model of the potential migration of the plume.  In addition, a groundwater remediation system is presently being installed at the site. Joe used our Voxler app for the 3D modeling portion of this project.

Building Momentum into 2017

The new year is here! 2017 is a book of clean, blank pages waiting to be filled and brimming with potential.

With the beginning of the new year, I, like many of you, set aside time for reflection. It is easy for me to forget just how much was accomplished over the past 365 days when I’m in the midst of projects and tasks of my own. As I look back on 2016, I am pleased with just how much Golden Software has accomplished.

Calculate Slope for a Site Suitability Model

I recently received a call from one of our Surfer users who was trying to create a site suitability model for a new manufacturing development. The user needed to find areas within the proposed site where the slope was under 10 degrees. The site suitability model required specific slope to be respected; the areas that were under the threshold criteria of 10% would be considered potential locations within the site to locate the new development.

A site suitability model can be easily developed in Surfer by creating a slope grid from a digital elevation model or DEM for the area, masking the slope grid to the site boundary, and creating a contour map that highlights the areas that meet the 10% or under criteria. Since this is such an interesting workflow, I thought it would be a great topic to blog about it so others in the Surfer community could benefit from seeing the approach.
