Where do great GIS ideas come from?

I was recently reviewing a GIS Cafe weekly newsletter and read a very interesting post...

Where do great GIS ideas come from?

The author (Matt Sheehan, Founder and Senior Principal at WebMapSolutions) mentioned attending conferences and speaking with customers and individuals to understand where innovation in the field of GIS gets started. Not surprisingly, the responses heard were:

"If only we could..."

and

"What we really need is..."

The author noted that comments such as these can be the start of great new ideas for improving GIS software.
