If you are upgrading from a version prior to version 14, major upgrades (e.g. version 13 to version 14) can be purchased for $279USD through our shopping page. Annual maintenance is included in the purchase.

Yes, concurrent use licensing is available for Surfer. This may be purchased through our shopping page by selecting the Concurrent Use License.
A concurrent use license, also called a “network” or “floating” license, is tied to a network. The License Manager or License Administrator software is installed on a license server on the company network. The product can be installed on as many client machines as desired. The product usage is controlled by the license server and is limited to the number of concurrent seats that were purchased. Surfer is a Windows program and is not compatible with Mac, Linux, or Unix operating systems. However, customers have run Surfer on a Windows emulator. Windows emulators allow a Windows environment to run on a Mac, Linux, or Unix operating system. Please know we do not test our software under these conditions. We recommend downloading the trial and testing the functionality yourself.
Surfer comes as both a 32-bit and as a 64-bit application. Upon the installation of Surfer, you will select which version to install. The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a computer’s processor (CPU) handles information. The 64-bit version of Surfer handles larger amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system. Not all devices can run the 64-bit versions of Surfer.
To determine if your Windows operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit, open File Explorer or This PC.
- Right click on This PC or Computer in the navigation pane and select Properties.
- In the System information screen, find the System type entity. This will indicate if your device has a 32-bit or a 64-bit processor.
Product keys are very similar to serial numbers as both are used to activate Surfer.
Towards the end of 2016, Golden Software made a change to the way Surfer is licensed. If you purchased Surfer prior to December 2016, you most likely have a Surfer serial number. If you purchased Surfer after December 2016, you will have a Surfer product key.
Your product key or serial number can be located in a few different places.
- Golden Software user account: Log in to MyAccount, click the My Products button, and your registered product keys and serial numbers are displayed
- Email containing download instructions: If you received your software via download, the product key or serial number was included in the emailed download instructions.
Yes, one (1) copy of the software and one (1) copy of the user documentation may be made for backup purposes only.
If you upgraded the older version of Surfer, then you must uninstall that version.
If you have a valid license for multiple versions of Surfer, meaning none of the licenses have been upgraded, they can be installed at the same time in different directories.
Software downloads are available through our MyAccount portal. Log in and click the My Products button. Click the icon to the left of the product you wish to reinstall. Make note of the product key or serial number.
If you have access to the original Surfer installation USB, CD or a backup copy, simply reinstall Surfer from those files.
